Finding an ice cream substitute has always been a challenge. Most fake ice creams are either not creamy or have a terrible aftertaste. Turtle Mountain has made me eat my words - literally. Their vegan, gluten free Purely Decadent products are aptly named. Vegan ice cream would ordinarily be an oxymoron, but these desserts are completely delicious.
As a die hard Ben and Jerry’s gal, this stuff is equally as good without the guilt. The dietary information shows that it is not a low calorie or low fat choice, but it is a nice change from dairy. If you keep kosher and need a parve or non dairy dessert option this is a winner.
I have tried to prioritize my favorite flavors and I am torn between the snickerdoodle variety which is a rich cinnamon flavor with pieces of buttery snickerdoodle cookie crumbles (gluten free too!), and the turtle trails which is loaded with chocolate covered praline pecans and caramel swirls.
The only negative about the product is that it is only marketed in pint sized containers. The company website profiles their long line of products, offers some email coupons and additional nutritional information, but here are the basics:
- Dairy Free Lactose Free
- Less than half the fat of Super Premium Dairy Ice Cream
- Contains only 65% of the calories
- Cholesterol Free
- No Trans Fats
- Certified Vegan
- Certified Made with Organic Ingredients
