When I was pregnant with the first baby, the husband and I spent what felt like hours standing in the Baby Superstore looking at strollers. We knew what we wanted. We’re both tall, so the stroller had to be made for tall folks. No stooping or bending when pushing the stroller around (watch people at the mall, you’ll be amazed at the number of people stooping to push a stroller).
We thought the concept of the travel system was great and after pushing them around the aisle, we settled on the Evenflo Travel System. It features a one-handed collapse option, a sturdy infant car seat and a very comfy ride for your little one with ample, but not unsafe padding. I also liked the big wheels. My mom had told me repeatedly, “Get big wheels, get big wheels. They last longer.” So we settled on four big wheels that are equipped with breaks and reflective discs on the front, and it was easy to envision my newborn snuggled comfortably and safely in.
My co-workers chipped in and bought me the travel system for my shower gift. And then I tried to put it in my car. At the time we drove an economy car. A Ford Escort, to be exact. It was a 4 door however, this big stroller with the big wheels would not fit into the trunk of our little car. The car seat worked well in the middle of the backseat, but then with the car seat in the middle – the stroller couldn’t go into the backseat.
We were stuck with a fancy, expensive stroller system (in 2002 they were over $200) of which we could only use the car seat. Shortly after we had to abandon this stroller for something smaller and just use this one for walks in the park.
However, flash forward two years, change to an SUV, and add in a double stroller for the twins and then you realize you’d like a nice big sturdy stroller for your growing boy. You break out the old Evenflo stroller and your dreams are answered. (If your dreams are of strollers, that is.)
Our first baby is now 5 and he still, from time to time, rolls in that sturdy Evenflo stroller. He can still nap, relax or just otherwise sit comfortably, although he does sit with his legs to the side since he’s taller. But he fits and the stroller doesn’t sag or wobble with his weight in it. This is by far the best single seat stroller that we have owned (as long as you don’t drive a clown car).
