K’Nex Allows Imaginations To Build Higher

K\'NexNo toy I have ever bought has kept our son more entertained than K’Nex. Sounds amazing I know, but it’s true. For his third birthday (almost 2 1/2 years ago) a friend purchased a small set of fishy animals for him and it was love at first sight. Once I realized this was the peace and quiet I’d been waiting for I rushed out to buy more. Soon we had an entire plastic bin filled with K’Nex pieces.

Every single day he built and every single day it was something different. I loved the fact that these toys let him use his imagination and create any object his heart desired. Last Christmas we realized he was beginning to outgrow this first level aimed at 3-5 year olds, so we bought a few of the next sets that contained smaller pieces and more intriquit parts. The same creative play was still there, but it was now focused more on his ability to use eye-hand coordination to manipulate the parts into what he wanted.

Recently we tried out some of their new products (in the older age group line) and the reaction so far has been great! The Cool Construction set is perfect for kids who love to build and reminded me of Lego’s, but with many more options to design and create. It even comes complete with lifts and cranes. The Rescue Assortment included four building sets that allowed our son to create police cars, fire engines, ambulances and helicopters. All the stuff little boys dream of. Plus, K’Nex will work with almost all brick building sets (such as Lego’s).

His favorite was by far the Dueling Racers set which allows children to build their own motorized cars powered by batteries. This set is aimed at ages 7 and up, so he needed a little help with the mechanics, but felt so proud to race his dad with a car he built himself!

K’Nex has become the birthday gift I buy for kids, because it has been well worth the money. The pieces are durable and can even withstand a few teeth marks created by a puppy dog. Not only that, but they come in durable easy to carry cases. Even though we have moved up a level in the K’Nex system, our son still plays with the younger set. The good toys never die.

Written by Emily, who is a married working mother of a very energetic 5 year old son. They reside in Southern Indiana (a little too close to the Kentucky border). Someday she’d like to visit Intercourse, PA and have her picture taken with the welcome sign. She writes at her personal blog, Fenicle and loves free samples and trying new things!
