The Medical Moisturizer Theraplex - Get A Free Sample Or Win A Combo Pack!

Several of our reviewers recently received samples from the new line of moisturizers called Theraplex. This brand uses a special concentration of petrolatum for maximum effectiveness against irritated and severely dry skin. Many who suffer from chronic conditions such as psoriasis or eczema can benefit from their products. I received four different skin care items to review for Theraplex Moisturizing products. One of the features that interested me most was their aggressive use of petrolatum in their products. As an eczema sufferer, I’ll attest high and low to the value of moisturizer with enough moisture in it to help keep the eczema under control. Having tried all four products now, I have some mixed reviews.

The HydroLotion is a nice thick formula of moisturizer that glides on smooth and does provide a nice level of moisture. I was not overly impressed, but found this to be a very good moisturizer for those of us whose skin is older (not quite 40 but getting there) or who may also have special needs skin like mine. Thumbs up, it works nicely even under makeup.

The FT product is billed as an Exfoliating Emollient. It says that it exfoliates with beta hydroxy acid, but if you read the ingredients it contains salicylic acid, which is the same stuff that is in any astringent you buy. I could not have disliked this product more. It had a dubious result on my feet and I thought I was going to go crazy trying to wash it off my hands.

I loved the Emollient. This is a wonderful, petroleum based product that goes on thick and wonderfully and provides great, long-lasting moisture. They completely got this one right. Unless you like oily stuff that will not soak in or will not wash off, stay away from the ClearLotion.

The Theraplex samples could not have arrived in a more timely manner. With 2 feet of freshly fallen snow and chapped, raw, and winter ravished skin I was more than ready to try a new moisturizing product. The Theraplex after shower, oil-based moisture lotion was liquid joy. It locked in the water droplets on my arms and legs when I was air drying in the bathroom. The unscented lotion does not interfere with other fragranced products already in my routine. I would suggest a pump delivery system on a larger sized bottle so that you can just squirt it into your palms rather than pouring it. I saved a bit of this lotion for my travel case, because it would be an ideal after sun lotion. Now I just need to schedule a warm weather vacation!

I’ve always struggled with dry skin on my feet. It’s the oddest thing because one foot sole is super dry with cracked skin and the other is perfectly fine. Of course I’ve tried just about everything, including scrubbing with a pumice stone and hydrating with very expensive creams. Nothing thus far has been a long term solution to my one poor foot.

Of the Theraplex samples I received, the Emollient provided the best relief from severely dry skin that I’ve ever tried. The special petrolatum formula was long lasting and kept my feet hydrated without feeling overly greasy for a full 24 hour period. I also used it on my elbows which in the winter become a little rough. Emollient allowed the skin to retain the softness I prefer.

I also gave the ClearLotion a try after showering and didn’t care for the watery feeling it left behind as it sat on my skin. One of the other samples I experienced was the HydroLotion and it was the perfect daily moisturizer. Theraplex has a lot of great products and I encourage you try them on your skin and see what works best for you.

Being a flight attendant means constantly working in an air-conditioned environment and going through dramatic climate changes. Because of this, dry skin is inevitable. Talk to any flight attendant and you’ll find that they have some sort of moisturizing lotion in their carry-on. Theraplex sent me 4 products to review and I have to say that I would not use 3 out of the 4. I’ll tell you why.

Theraplex Emollient for severely dry skin was a thick paste-like lotion that felt sticky and heavy. Even after washing my hands a few times, I just could not remove the waxy feeling. Theraplex FT Exfoliating Emollient had a strong medicinal smell and also left a sticky residue. Theraplex after shower ClearLotion was a clear oil-like substance that made me want to take another shower just to get it off of me. Maybe I just don’t have the type of skin that needs this kind of lotions.

However, the Theraplex HydroLotion for every day use was great! It was scentless and quickly absorbed into my skin. It also left me feeling moisturized without being sticky or slimy. This is what a moisturizer is all about.

If only I had medically dry skin I could write a wonderful review about Theraplex. Surely, Theraplex is the cat’s meow for truly, troubled dry skin, but my fairly average skin is probably not the best surface for testing Theraplex.

Theraplex claims that many consumers who have eczema and other dry situations have been saved by the magical powers of their lotions. I liked the nice packaging and subtle smell, but not so much the medical smell and utilitarian bottle. The personnel at Theraflex could not be any nicer and I wish them well. I passed on my samples to a woman at work whose niece has eczema to try.
