I have never been a fan of frozen pizza. Ever! Until I tried California Pizza Kitchen’s version and I was blown away. I was so impressed that I went back to the grocery store and purchased a few other flavors to have on hand. Bye-bye restaurant delivery, hello CPK in my freezer.
Baked according to the bright yellow box’s directions, the White Pizza came out bubbling and smelling like the local CPK restaurant version, but at way less than half the price. Not including the tax and tip!
It is a thinner crust with spinach, garlic and several cheeses that has a rich and tasty vegetarian alternative to a heartier meat pizza. Spinach pizza would normally not appeal to my carnivore husband, but when he smelled it he could not resist. Combined with a glass of Chardonnay and a big salad, it is a meal you can enjoy anytime.
The thicker crusted BBQ chicken pizza is a hearty and savory choice. Sauced with a sassy barbecue glaze, topped with caramelized red onions, cilantro and cubes of white meat chicken laid under gouda cheese, made this pizza really tasty.
The flavors are heavenly and the puffy crust has a texture that is crisp. This pizza even came out of the oven with a few of the pizzeria style bubble pockets - those poofed areas that blister when baked. I would recommend cutting it into small wedges and serving as an appetizer when entertaining.
The only thing that would make CPK pizza’s better would be a bus-boy to clear the plates when you are finished eating. Bon appetit!
