Despite the recent recall of one of their parts, I’m here to preach the “Gospel According To GeoTrax.”
GeoTrax, if you aren’t familiar, is possibly the BEST train set ever made in the history of the world. Okay, I may be exaggerating just a tad but it really is cool.
GeoTrax is manufactured by Mattel, and one of it’s MAIN features is that all of the different pieces of this toy fit together. You can buy the city, or the dock, or any other “set” and they click together nice as you please. All toys are all interchangeable. It’s great.
And everything in GeoTrax world is sized for little hands. Little hands can connect the track pieces, little hands can couple up trains with no complicated fastening devices. One of my main complaints with a lot of “play sets” in toy land is that they require constant parental intervention. I don’t mind PLAYING, but I do mind having to be the one to change stuff constantly because it isn’t designed for little hands or minds.
My oldest designs track layouts and in doing so has to do some pretty complex problem solving. Pieces don’t work out? Have to rework it. He’s learning to approach issues with spatial relationships while he plays make believe. When I come home from lunch every day I’m almost always greeted with “Mom check out my new layout” or “Mom, let’s do a test run on my layout. We need to see if my trains will crash!”
The colors are bright and festive, and many of the sets include fun noises that are not SO loud that you want to scream, but help provide realism to the make believe.
GeoTrax are fun to play with even when you’re a grown up and for the little train fan at your house, they are a great choice to encourage hand eye coordination, problem solving and just some good old fashion play. And they are priced really reasonably. You can get most sets in the neighborhood of $20 (bigger sets are more - OBVIOUSLY).
Check out GeoTrax. They’re really fun and you may find that you enjoy them as much as your kids do!
