When self-tanners first came out I was in high school. I had a good friend who left her fate up to a bottle the day before prom. She freely applied the tanner over her entire body hoping to have that “sun-kissed glow” in her strapless dress. Her glow turned into what can only be described as an orange nightmare.
After witnessing what a mental breakdown worthy of institutionalization, I vowed to never use a fake tanner. As I’ve gotten older I have realized the importance of healthy skin and using sunscreen. I still envy those tan girls, but I have found a way to have the best of both worlds.
There are many products out there that offer varying degrees of tan at all different prices. This summer I found Jergen’s Natural Glow lotion which provides both moisturizers and a light degree of tanned color to even out my skin.
You choose the appropriate shade for you skin type from the 3 shades and apply lightly. It may take several days to notice the difference, but it will appear. The nice thing is that it doesn’t look fake, orange or leave streaks. Since the change is gradual, you actually get the benefit of a glow.
They also offer a new daily moisturizer for you face that adds a hint of color. Both products are reasonably priced and can be found at most stores. My only suggestion is to wash your hands with soap when you are finished applying the lotion. I did notice an odd color between my fingers after using the product, which is more than likely an accumulation of lotion that I didn’t rub in.

Will it work on someone really pale and freckly? I’ve not had such good luck with the early self-tanners and need something verrrry subtle.
I would assume so. Although I am pretty fair skinned (with exception to my white-blinding legs!). I would use the lightest shade they have & apply evenly & lightly to see how it turns out.
I, too, discovered this a few weeks ago. I think it works great!! I use it primarily on my legs, which don’t seem to change color no matter how much sun I give them.
Definitely worth trying!!
