We Did the Twist!

Three PnP reviewers recently sampled & reviewed the same Rocketfish Twister Wireless Laser Notebook Mouse that we gave away a coule weeks ago. Did they like it? Keep reading to find out!

I love my notebook computer. It’s perfect in so many ways, but the one thing I’m not crazy about is using the built-in mouse. I miss having the external mouse, but don’t enjoy having the extra wires to hook and unhook every time I want to use it. Then along came the Rocketfish Twister Wireless Laser Notebook Mouse.

What I love about this mouse it how the flat square design fits the palm of my hand and the scroll button is fairly quiet. The smooth slimness also allows for easy storage or travel by a simple twist. It’s compatible with most software and requires 2 AAA batteries.

You have a lot of options if you’re looking for a wireless mouse, but from a design perspective, Rocketfish has the consumers needs in mind.

I am a technoidiot. I married a programmer, so he takes care of all the techy stuff needed in our house or on my computer, and I tend to shy away from doing anything on my own. Oh, I can load software and I understand how to do the basics on my machine, and I was a technical writer for 12 years, so I can use a software program or two. But hardware? It scares me.

Our editor had asked if anyone had a wireless notebook and didn’t have a mouse, and with trepidation I told her I did, because I didn’t know what she was up to. A little while later I got the Rocketfish Twister Wireless Laser Notebook Mouse delivered to my house. I carefully read all the mumbo jumbo on the box (it comes in three different languages), opened it up, and stared.

I found a mouse looking thingy in a soft black pouch, a tiny little CD-ROM, and a little booklet full of techno speak that to me is fairly incomprehensible (and to think I actually used to write those things for software - oy). I took the little mousy thingy out of its sleeping bag and started to play with it. I pushed all the buttons, and a little something popped out. I thought I’d broken it at first; then I noticed it was a little thing that plugs into a USB port, and I only know what that is because of my digital camera and my iPod. I grabbed the CD-ROM, put it in the drive and installed the software (so easy I can do it without help), rebooted the computer, and plugged the little doodad in.

I was a little perplexed at first by the mouse itself, because it didn’t have a ball on it. I am apparently not able to pay enough attention amidst all of the excitement of my five year old trying to take the new toy away to read that it is a LASER mouse. So I kept trying to use it on the table by itself, and it wasn’t working very well, so I played with it a bit. And I discovered that you twist it. And then?

Wow. I used to do data entry on a standard desktop a million years ago, and this laser mouse is light years faster than that. It is faster and more comfortable than using the trackpad on my laptop. It is a thing of beauty and wonder. I love it and I hope that the lovely people at Rocketfish don’t want it back, because they can’t have it. It is practical, too; the little doodad that plugs into the USB port plugs back into the mouse when you aren’t using it, and with a twist the mouse is asleep and ready to go back into the sleeping bag to store it or take it on the road. There is no ball to get all gunked up with you-don’t-wanna-know-what like a standard mouse. My five year old loves it, and he keeps trying to take it and my laptop to play Blue’s Reading Games or Veggie Island or whatever the heck else he’s loaded on my machine, but he can’t have it - I’m the Mom and I say so.

So, short version: easy enough a harried mother of four who can’t pay attention for more than 4 seconds can figure out how to install it and use it, comfortable, accurate, fast, and lovely. And all mine. Go get your own.

When I received the Rocketfish Twister Wireless Laser Notebook Mouse, I admit I handed it to my husband to set up. I’m capable of doing it but he’s faster and probably a bit more savvy when sizing up a hardware accessory. He had it up and running in literally about a minute. All told, it’s a cool little gizmo that has it’s own internal compartment for the USB cable and it twists to fit your hand then then untwists for compact storage. I used it for a while and decided I like it a lot better than the trackpad on our Mac laptop. On my desktop computer I use a laser mouse (with a wire) so I’m familiar with having no ball inside my mouse with all that mystery crud all over it but being able to go wireless with the laptop is pure bliss because, as noted in a previous review, I HATE wires! Anyway, after some wheedling, I begrudgingly gave the Rocketfish to the huz to try at work on his PC. The verdict? He likey. In fact, I asked him to bring it home but he hogs it here, too. I guess I’m just going to have to buy another one…
