Baby Sac Diaper Bags: Save Your Money

by MaryAbout certain things, I am a cheapskate. And I have a whole passel of kids, so the diaper bag, aka Mom’s purse, ends up being the repository for everything one needs for a baby in diapers who has reflux and frequently pukes on stuff along with all manner of sippy cups, Happy Meal toys, Legos, stuffed animals, crayons, house listings, and other sundry crap.

Up until about 2 months ago I was using the black diaper bag that the hospital gave me for free when we went home, but it really was just too small for all the stuff, so I wanted a new one.

I had several requirements: it must be big, it must be easy to clean, and it must be durable because I will be weighed down with all this crap for the foreseeable future. I was too “frugal” to want to shell out the dollars for a bag that I knew to be durable, but expensive, so I bought a Baby Sac diaper bag at Toys R Us for about $15 on sale. It was big, it was nylon and easy to clean, and it looked like it was well constructed.

It wasn’t. The strap, which was sewn onto the bag through the top seam for the bag itself, completely separated from the bag last week. So I got a little less than 2 months out of it, and I had to go buy a new bag, which meant that if I had just shelled out for the more expensive, but proven, one in the first place, I wouldn’t have been stuck struggling with a diaper bag hanging on by one strap.

The bag the hospital gives away for free? It lasted me four months, and was still going strong.
