Now You Know

Now You Know Media is a very small new media company. They work with experts in various fields to record audio lectures on various topics. It’s essentially adult education on CD’s.

So far, they have three categories: Now You Know Health, Now You Know Wealth & Now You Know Religion.

I was asked to review some of their programs and chose the two that were most obviously related to my blogging: Preparing For A Healthy Pregnancy and Caring for Your Baby From Birth to Age One. (Little did I know I’d actually need both of these again now!) The programs are designed to meet the needs of moms directly and answer the questions they most commonly have.

Preparing For A Healthy Pregnancy is presented by Dr. Sebastian Faro who is a clinical professor of obstetrics, gynecology & reproductive sciences at the University of Texas. The program consists of three topics, each of them 30 minutes in length. It deals with all of the pressing questions and issues that people have before they try to conceive and into their first pregnancy.

I was impressed with this program for several reasons. It really does address it all, from choosing your care provider, the questions to ask at the pre-conception visit, medical issues and lifestyle issues. It also nicely addresses infertility and the related medical issues and treatments that might be undertaken. Dr. Faro is well spoken. The program is clear & concise without any ‘fluff.’ It’s like reading a pre-conception book, but you’ll have two free hands and can do it while you drive or clean the house in 30 minute increments!

Caring for Your Baby From Birth to Age One is just like it says. Presented by pediatrician Dr. Dennis Kuo from Johns Hopkins, it covers everything from the moment of birth to the first birthday. (It talks about a nursery, which is kind of wierd since we don’t have those here - we have mandatory rooming in which is WAY preferable to me - there’s no way I’d let anyone take my baby out of my sight.)

In twelve 25 minute topics, he talks about everything from coming home (and what you need there), breastfeeding, preventing SIDS, safety at home and outside, playing, learning, colic, allergies, immunizations and so much more. This is a great program - it’s medically sound & contains all the basics.

If you’re like the rest of us and have the urge to read 204 books about fertility, pregnancy & baby care, do yourself a favour and do some of your learning through Now You Know Media. I read every book I could find and, while I don’t regret it, I could have saved a lot of time in getting just the need-to-know details had I just listened to these CD’s.
