An Open Letter to DHL

DHL, you put my family through hell! Why did your delivery man ask my children our house number? I realize the kids were playing in our yard and the delivery man wanted to know if he was at the correct address. But dude…

You got out of a van and my children don’t know you and then you asked them questions about our house and who lives there!!!

Find an adult to ask or just go up to my door and ring the bell. You scared the CRAP out of my kids!

And DHL, you might want to give your customer service representatives some training on how to deal with this kind of situation should someone like me call and want clarification on DHL policy.

It is NOT an acceptable answer to say “Well, is your house number clearly marked? The driver needed to know if it was the right house so obviously he needed to ask someone.”

Um, yes. But not kids. He needs to ask an adult or use his cell phone to call the office.

When I asked for a supervisor only then I did receive an apology and I was also told it was not DHL’s policy to ask children house numbers, regardless of whether a house number is visible or not. Kids should not be approached by DHL drivers. Oh and then he added that those drivers don’t actually work for DHL, they are private contractors.

Whether or not your drivers are private contractors or not, they have your initials on their van, so if I were you DHL, I’d want to make sure they were upholding my corporate policies anyway.

Accountability. It’s a word. Look it up.
