Not So Egg-cellent

Egg Head.jpgMy kitchen is small and my counter space is limited, as are my cabinets. Just when you think they’ve invented every possible gadget possible you find another. I am all for convenience and accept any help in the kitchen I can get. In our house the microwave gets more use than our oven. My two favorite gadgets are a quesadilla maker and an iced tea maker. Neither are necessary but both are items we use often.

This may not be the newest idea, but the Toastmaster Egg Head Egg Cooker is a newer product. What’s the thrill in using this you might wonder? Sure it will keep your stove top burners free, but is it worth $20? The Toastmaster will cook up to 7 eggs at a time – including soft boiled, hard-boiled, poached, or mini-omelets. It sounds better than it really is. It cooks the eggs pretty well and the consistency is good, however just exactly how much water you add isn’t detailed in the instructions.

On poached eggs, 2 medium eggs require #5 of water, but if you’re doing large eggs, you will have to guess on how much water. My biggest problem is the alarm. You cannot make eggs for breakfast without waking up the neighbors across the street! It’s that loud. It took about 18 minutes to hard boil 6 eggs and clean up after the omelets was a mess.

This product reminds me of an easy bake oven for eggs. For the mess and set-up, I’d rather just use my stove-top. At least by doing it the old-fashioned way I have some control. With Easter around the corner, I figured someone might be a sucker like me and look for an easy way out but I can’t recommend this as being any easier than using your stove.

[...] The modernized people of today love everything instant, everything that can be obtained in a snap. Even homemakers are found guilty ofn this count, especially with the emergence of superwomen species also known as career women/full-time moms. Considering the hectic life everyone is having, you can not blame people for embracing all the updates of technology (i.e. microwave ovens and vacuum cleaners)  that offer convenience and comfort. However, not all those modish products are cut out to impress. An example of such is the egg cooker that Emily’s blog article related. [...]
