One of the most depressing things about growing older is that your skin naturally thins and gets terribly dried out, especially in winter. Between the very cold dry air outside, and the heated dry air inside, skin has little chance to stay moist like it does in the humid summer. So supplementing the moisture in the air, and using a moisturizer on your skin keeps you from hopping up and down in misery because your back itches in a spot you just cannot reach. Oh, I just hate that.
My skin has always been naturally dry all over my body except for my face, which was an oil well waiting to erupt in my teens. But dry skin is just a small part of my skin’s woes. It is remarkably itchy all year round due to dryness, and it’s also allergic to pretty much everything known to mankind. Including the entire outdoors. It’s a laugh riot when insects come near me, let me tell you.
Following the rules of dry skin experts, I take very short showers, around 5 minutes long, with not very hot water. The second I get out of the shower I lube up with lotion all over my body to keep the moisture from the shower on my skin.
Recently I tried a couple of types of Keri Moisture Therapy Lotions; the Original formula, and the Nourishing Shea Butter recipe. Both worked very well and have made my skin softer and less itchy.
Keri Original Moisture Therapy is a nice emulsion, not too gloopy and thick. It provides long lasting moisturization and heals your skin with Vitamin E as it deeply conditions with sunflower oil. I found that it left my skin feeling soft, smooth, and very healthy feeling. Using it daily has made my skin feel younger and more supple. I’ve always like Keri products, and this lotion seems to be a great product at a very reasonable price. Plus, it’s available in your local pharmacies as well as supermarkets
Keri Nourishing Shea Butter Moisture Therapy is thicker than the Original Moisture Therapy. It is a rather intense, creamy body lotion containing natural Shea Butter as well as Vitamin E. These two additions hydrate and condition very dry, thirsty skin. This lotion is especially good for “problem spots” like knees, elbows, and your scaly dry winter feet. It penetrates deeply into your skin and provides a long-lasting, very intense moisturization.
I found that it heals and deeply conditions the very thin skin areas, like your ankles and shins, keeping the skin supple and less vulnerable to cracking, flaking, and itching. Shea Butter’s natural ability to hydrate, rejuvinate and easily penetrate skin leaves your skin feeling comfortably soft and healthy.
Keri also makes other lotions that I have yet to try, but seeing how successful I was with these two lotions, I will be trying them as well.
Now, if only someone could figure out how to get that one very itchy spot in the middle of my back that I can’t reach.
