Whenever a recipe calls for greasing a pan, I always use cooking spray. I also use it to spray the insides of plastic storage containers before filling them with any tomato-based sauces or leftovers. One thing I have always hated, however, is the cap on cans of cooking spray. Looks like I’m not the only one because Crisco has come out with a new system — no cap required!
If you have cooking spray in your pantry, chances are it is a large plastic cap on it. And it’s probably hard to get on and off, right? The last can of cooking spray I bought (a store-brand, not Crisco) had a soft plastic cap that defied all attempts at removal. I tried gripping the top and pulling it straight off, I tried pinching it on the sides, but that sucker was not coming off that easily. I finally had to use a table knife to pry up the edge, popping off the cap and sending it flying across the kitchen.
Crisco’s new system is called “Simple Touch™ Spray with Click & Go Nozzle.” A simple twist of the top and the can is ready to spray, and the top has a slight indentation where your thumb goes. Pressing forward releases the mist of cooking spray. What I love the most about this is that I can grab it with one hand and spray the skillet or pan I’m holding in the other hand, without having to stop to wrestle the cap off.
Crisco also has a great website. Click on the Recipes tab and find a whole bunch of great resources to help with meal planning.
Under What’s for Dinner?, I found recipes that specifically use the cooking sprays, including one for baked quesadillas that calls for spraying both the baking sheets and the tops of the tortillas.
The Meal Plans link gives you menus for a main dish, sides and dessert with recipes and a shopping list. Put a bunch of these together and you’ve got your week’s menu already planned.
