Great Scents Unplugged!

Yankee Reed Diffuser.jpgOne of the coolest new things I received for Christmas this year was a Yankee Candle Reed Diffuser. At first I was unsure exactly what to do with it, but after giving it a try it’s become a new favorite. You may have seen these aromatherapy oil bottles in various stores. I haven’t tried any other brands, but they all seem to work the same, and there are a variety of heavenly aromas to choose from.

As with most things, the more you pay, the more you get. When I looked on Yankee Candle’s website to check this baby out (and order more), I admit being a little surprised at the price ($19.99). As I thought more about it and added in my head the amount of money I’d shelled out for those plug-in air freshener’s and refills, it seemed reasonable. I used to have something in every available plug of our house! I’m somewhat of a freak when it comes to things smelling good.

I simply placed the reeds in the bottle and sat it on our fireplace mantel. Within a few days I could see that the oil had soaked into the natural wood and the scent had began to fill the room. I was pleasantly surprised considering is sits on one end of our long shaped living room. This reminds me of a science experiment we did in school by placing celery in water with food coloring and watching it absorb into the stalk.

The plug-in brands I’ve used in the past seem to fade too quickly. A friend said that they key is to flip the reeds every few weeks to keep the fragrance flowing and arrange them in a circular pattern. This product is the new scented candle for people who don’t want to worry about kids and fires. What a great gift! I recommend the Home Sweet Home scent.
