The Dora Game House Rocks

blogstuff 018.jpgThe Dora Game House arrived at our home this Christmas and I’m not ashamed to say we just got around to opening it. Well, we unwrapped it at Christmas. But given the vast number of things we HAD to open - and all of the little twist ties and damned restraining devices that were in each box well, this one took a while to get to. It sat aside and waited, patiently, just like the 4 year old who received it as a gift.

Today, I took off my BAD MOTHER hat and opened it up.

Man, this thing is cool. It seriously includes NICE QUALITY game pieces and doesn’t have random toys that are supposed to do double or triple duty in various game play. This game includes Checkers with little figures of Dora and Swiper for the checkers. VERY cute - each character has little crowns to put on their head when you KING them.

Also included are:

  • Bingo
  • Tic Tac Toe
  • Dominoes
  • Old Maid Card Deck
  • Crazy 8s Card Deck
  • Match Game Card Deck
  • Go Fish Card Deck

I have to admit I’m impressed. Usually these Game Chest deals are worthless and have lame paper playmats, or wimpy cardboard to play on. The Game Chest itself is wooden (okay it’s probably particle board) and solid, with the checkers board on top, and a nice sized drawer to hold all of the little pieces inside. My only complaint is that I wish it had come with the little pieces such as dominoes and the bingo cover pieces in ziploc style bags - as I had to convert to those after I ripped open the bags they came in.

It wasn’t expensive, and there really are a lot of good, classic games inside to play. Plus, it includes instructions, which is good. I used to play the HECK out of some of these games back in the day but my memory is a little foggy three kids later. I’m looking forward to a little Old Maid later, I tell you what.

Gidge is a mother of a 4 year old boy and 2 1/2 year old twin boys. A transplanted Hoosier, diehard Colts fan and professional call center manager, she likes long walks on the beach, penguins and playing ping-pong. Her turn-ons include sleep and silence.
