Coming Clean About Burt’s Bees Deep Pore Scrub

Burts Bees Deep Pore ScrubWe recently reviewed another Burt’s Bees product on Props and Pans and it was quite favorable but this time around, I have to give a big thumbs down to the Burt’s Bees Peach & Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub. I tried to like it. I wanted to like it… But alas, I just couldn’t.

For starters, there is not enough of the scrubby stuff (finely ground peach stone) for it to be effective. My face never felt scrubbed clean like it has with any of the numerous other facial scrubs I’ve used over the years.

Second, after washing the Peach & Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub off my face, I was left with a waxy, oily film that just wouldn’t come off with warm water. I ended up re-washing my face with hot water and a non-Burt’s Bees facial wash. Unbelievably, it still didn’t feel completely free of the weird waxy, oily residue so I then used an astringent, which finally removed all traces of it from my face. And just to show you that I’m very fair and was even hopeful of a better outcome, I tried it again with the same results.

Unfortunately, the nasty, water-resistant residue was a dealbreaker for me. I use facial scrubs to get my face feeling very clean, not covered with some weird film that doesn’t want to wash off. The verdict? Burt’s Bees Peach & Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub is not a product I would recommend and thus it gets a big pan.
