How many cleaning products do you have under your sink? I dare you to count. If you’re number is less than five, you’re less of a sucker than I am. I’m always looking for that product to make my life easier, faster and cleaner. As a busy Mom to four kids, I don’t have a lot of time to fuss with dispensers and buckets. Having said that, their health is important to me, and I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t concerned about the harsh chemicals in many of today’s cleaning products. It seems you can’t turn around without hearing about a newly discovered potentially harmful substance in your average bathroom cleaner.
The Method line cleaning products recently arrived in Canada (available at Shopper’s Drug Mart). To say that I was excited is an understatement. Their products are beautifully packaged, a true testament to their “People Against Dirty” tagline. Design is one of the flagship ideas on which the company was founded. Simple, elegant and clear, you know what you’re getting. In fact, I find their clear bottles with smooth lines to be really hip accents to any room they’re put in. I enjoy putting them out for guests to see. When was the last time you were able to say that about Lysol?
Method’s products appear to be multiplying quickly. More and more items are becoming available, each with their own special use. I like the company’s use of creative language to describe their items. Quoted from their website: “After method soap: Clean, fresh, fragrant, joyful, alive, disco-dancin’”. Fun. Right? The Method website is chock full of cute little sayings that make you excited about using their products. Any item that can excite me about the mundane just might be on to something.
So far, in our home, I’ve tried the Pink Grapefruit hand soap, Cucumber dish soap and all- purpose cleaner. For practical use, I’m very happy with the hand soaps. They seem to clean well with a small amount of product used and my hands smell fresh and clean. Many of my guests have commented on both the packaging and product itself. They ask where I purchased it and how I like it.
The dish soap not only looks beautiful on my counter, it’s unique bottle only squeezes out a small amount of soap with each use. I deeply admire any company that makes it so that you don’t dispense more than you need. It irks me to no end to have many “ultra” dish soaps pour out in massive amounts so that you have to buy more, sooner. My only issue with the dish soap is that I find it doesn’t lather very much, nor does the small amount of lather last very long. Washing really tough dishes proved to be a bit of a challenge and I found the soap itself rinsed off too easily – before the job was done. A minor annoyance that might be improved upon at some point, although it’s entirely possible I’m just not cleaning the right way.
Method’s all-purpose cleaner smells divine and cleans very well. I purchased the largest bottle nearly three months ago and I am not yet at the halfway point in the bottle. I simply spray a small amount to the surface I’m cleaning and wipe. Although I do find that on some surfaces I need to rinse with a damp cloth as it leaves a film. Rinsing is not something you have to do though (like many other products), as the ingredients are not harmful.
All in all, I am very happy with the Method line of products. Any minor annoyances are greatly outweighed by the health and environmental benefits. And their bottles are so pretty!
Also, the company has a blog. Hello? You had me at “blog”, Method people! You had me at “blog”.

I can personally recommend the Method shower cleaner; its scent is mint & eucalyptus, and it’s such a treat to be able to spray down the tile without choking on fumes! And the stuff really works, too.
You might prefer Mrs. Meyers dish soap (advertised at left) if they have it in Canada - her fragrances are amazing, too, though the bottle isn’t as pretty as Method’s. The soap is very sudsy.
I’ve tried the lavender cleaner. I think it’s an all-purpose degreaser and I loved it. And the squirt bottle is a keeper. Unlike those crappy Windex bottles, it continues to spray properly long after the product is gone. I keep mine filled with water to mist wrinkles (I don’t iron)! As for the cleaner, it was comparable to 409 but smelled so much better!
Oh! Thanks. I’ll have to give the Mrs Meyers a try.
They also have unbelievable customer service. My son has asthma, so I sent an email to ask them something about one of their products and a real live person emailed me back a few minutes later and actually answered my question and then some. She went on to thank me for using their products. Amazing!
I’ve seen the method products but I didn’t realize they were more earth friendly than ordinary products, which i don’t care for. i usually end up cleaning everything with vinegar, water and baking soda, But I will check these out, especially if they smell good. Nothing worse than cleaning your house before a party or playgroup and having it smell like vinegar!
I LOVE the method stuff, and the Mrs. Meyer’s as well.
