Dear V8 Splash,
While I can appreciate your desire to market a product with less sugar, I would also expect that when you used an artificial sweetener like sucralose (Splenda) as an ingredient, you would somehow make that bit of information VISIBLE somewhere on your bottle. Oh, and that teeny, tiny, almost unreadable font that you use for your ingredients DOESN’T count.
I bought V8 Splash because before hurricane Ernesto, the stores were cleaned out and there was no organic apple juice left. Rather naively, I considered the V8 reputation of being a good source of fruits and vegetables and thought maybe it would be a decent choice in lieu of an organic juice.
However, when I took a sip of your V8 Splash, I noticed an odd aftertaste. I glanced at the front of the bottle and didn’t see ANYTHING stating that V8 Splash was “light” or “diet” or that it had artificial sweeteners in it. Nothing.
I eventually took a closer look and saw the very last ingredient is sucralose (Splenda). My question is why are you trying to sneak it into your crappy 10% real fruit juice beverage?
It seems to me that if you’re using sucralose (Splenda) as an ingredient, you’d be pimping that factoid all over the place like every other company looking to jump on the low carb/no carb bandwagon. I find it odd that you’d put it in your beverage and not say a fricken word about it ANYWHERE. In fact, I find it downright deceptive.
Do you think people will appreciate that you aren’t telling them that they’re filling their kids full of a [tag]chlorinated[/tag] compound for which there have been NO independent controlled human studies for safety and still hasn’t been approved in most European countries?
I’m thinking not.
Thanks to your deceptive ways, you’ve lost my business for life. I’ll just buy good old Juicy Juice next time I can’t get the organic kind.
Yours in non-synthetic sugary goodness,
Izzy
And just to be fair about it, I’m going to link to a page that has both the pros and cons of sucralose (Splenda) so that the facts, for better or for worse, are available to anyone who wants them. If you want more info, just type “sucralose” into Google.

Not to mention that V8 Splash contains GMOs, which they are not required by law to mention on their packaging!
It seems like everyone is really into the whole Splenda thing now, and I imagine it’s because they haven’t read up on it. Vile stuff!
[...] My birthday wasn’t a total wash. When Hubz realized he wasn’t getting off with a lame excuse this year he somewhat surreptitiously threw together a little birthday soiree for me on Sunday evening. Okay, maybe a soiree is overstating it. We had snacks and pizza and beer and Captain Morgan’s with scary V8 Splash and a fabulous triple chocolate homemade birthday cake. And an assload of kids. But it was fun in it’s craziness and I only longed for the good old days one or two or seven times, especially since my friend gave me a framed photo of her and I and my five other best friends on the night of my bachelorette party, twelve years ago. [...]
Thanks for the warning! I had been thinking about trying some of that with my toddler but now I will totally avoid it. I hate artificial sweetners!!!!
I’d go with Fusion next time. Half veggies half fruit nothing artificial. Same V-8 Co. We swear by it.
I think you get a lot of hits but few comments because you’re providing a service, not starting discussion. I’ve loved every one of your posts here so far, and I’m learning which things to stay away from and what products are good.
I actually prefer first-hand experiences of a product, service, or store versus advertising. Hell, I could think of a half-dozen shops and products that I really like and really dislike - I just need to write them all down.
This is one of the reasons I love blogging and the internet. You learn all kinds of stuff and people exchange info freely.
Power to the people!!!
Linkateria is the same way. It gets as many hits some days as Red Stapler, but NO comments. It makes me so very sad.
Splenda is gross. My friend gets horrific migraines every time he has something with Splenda. He has become an avid label reader.
I read all the time but almost never comment because I have nothing to add to the post. You usually have it all covered and the information is great, but I feel dumb writing a comment that says “great post!” So, I’m here, just soaking in the info.
Love this site - just usually nursing while I read so I can’t comment. Synthetic anything is disgusting and should not be put into our bodies…let alone the bods of our babes!
Thanks for the heads up- not that I had an urge to try V8 splash any time soon- but knowing now about the Splenda in it- I will NEVER try it. I hate Splenda worse than I hate folding laundry. I seriously have been searching for a flavored water without that crap in it forever. I read label after label….Sucuralose, Splenda…gah!
You rock sistah. I visit quite often and don’t comment. I just assume you’re right and tuck the info in the back of my wittle brain.
Thank you for providing this awesome service to us all.
*bows before you*
Well, as for the lack of comments - it’s kinda hard to comment if you don’t have direct experience with the product. I mean, I enjoy reading but it just seems stupid to comment “thanks for the info!” after every post even though that’s what I’m thinking.
And I was GOING to try this V8 stufff, for the vegetables and what not, but now I may not.
thanks for the info. i’m not really into sweetners anyway and this is just one more reason to stay away from them. thanks.
[...] I like this post over at IzzyMom’s Props and Pans site, where she rips into V8 for their lack of important labeling on the V8 Splash “juice” bottle. (They advertise the drink as low in sugar, but use Splenda to sweeten it, and one has to look very closely to even find that out.) Anyway, I agree with Izzy, and she plays fair by linking to a pro/con information page about the artificial sweetener. [...]
im so disappointed! my mom bout some v8splash from mexico and they were so good..100% juice. no conservatives or artificial flavoring. so i went to the store to buy some. i cheked the ingredients to check what fruits were in it and i saw that it had high fructose corn syrup and some other crap in it!! =( weird aint it??
hello, have nice day…
