MSNBC News…brought to you by Walmart

Earlier today a friend sent me this article. I don’t know why but some people just seem hell bent on trying to get me to stop buying organic food, like they’re helping me or something. You’d think they were footing my obscene grocery bills.

But anyway, this article discusses how the health benefits of organic milk are supposedly proven to be minimal at best etc etc etc. But if you look right above the article to the right, you see a little thing that says — are you ready for this? —it says “SPONSORED BY WALMART.” Go see for yourself if you can’t believe the audacity of Walmart and MSNBC for trying to peddle “sponsored” journalism. It’s also interesting that Walmart has been a part of the very strong lobby to weaken organic standards.

Methinks this has a lot to do Walmart buying from organic suppliers in China (Yes. You read correctly.) I’d trust something from an “organic” farm in China about as much as I trust George Bush, which is to say…not much at all.

Conversely, here is another article on basically the same topic. It directly contradicts a lot of what was “reported” in the MSNBC/Walmart-sponsored article about Monsanto’s synthetic bovine growth hormone (rBGH) found in non-organic milk being harmless.

Now I ask you, who is more credible? The large media conglomerate’s article sponsored by Walmart? Or the small independent (to my knowledge) newspaper? Who has more to gain here? Walmart or The Independent Weekly? Who is more likely to be part of a larger agenda? Walmart/MSNBC or The Independent Weekly?

That’s a big old pan for MSNBC and [tag]Walmart[/tag] but a small prop for NBC’s Today show because they had a guest, some sort of meat expert, on earlier this week that stated for all the world to hear that grassfed and/or organic beef is better tasting and better for you. I wonder how long it will take the “Beef! It’s What’s for Dinner!” people to crucify him…

Interestingly enough, I also found this on MSNBC. Note the difference in content when Walmart isn’t sponsoring it.

And for what it’s worth, I make no claims to be unbiased or objective but I do expect the media to be.

Check out this link and look under current campaigns. that eliminates what I considered to be \”affordable\” organic milk. I have switched over the Publix greenwise milk which is guarenteed to be hormone free - my BIGGEST concern as the mother of two daughters. its about a dollar less per half gallon

I checked out that link. There\’s some great info there. I hope everyone will contact their representatives and tell them they want current organic standards to be upheld. If they\’re not, you\’ll never know if what your getting is truly organic or not.

My only comment is that I wish I could afford to buy organic milk. We go through a gallon of milk, at least, a day, and I can’t get other groceries and milk.

Spot on, though, Izzy. Like usual. ;)

Ugh!! This makes my head hurt. Thank you for the links, I can’t believe how manipulated people (I being one of them) are by the media. You can’t trust anything you hear and I admit that although I hate Wal Mart, I was surprised when I heard that they were carrying “organic” food. I guess that’s what I get for thinking!! Thanks again, and I love this new site! :)

UGH. Wal-Mart is sponsoring MSNBC articles?? Where will the insanity end?

Are you still interested in a piece on Wal-Mart organics? Perhaps you should do a whole series of posts on Wal-Mart. There’s certainly enough blog fodder.

My mind was made up about organic milk once I saw the movie The Corporation, a section of which discussed Monsanto. Not to be gross, but the bottom line is: BGH is bad for cows, and it causes infection, and you end up with pus in the milk. I am not drinking pus-y milk.

And let’s not forget that Monsanto also spearheaded Equal sweetener. Be very afraid.

Thanks for the links. I love reading this stuff. I love that WalMart is advertising its organic selections on the same page. Could they be any more evil?

I think you are the cat’s meow. Right on.

Izzy this is AWESOME and thank you for this. This is why I love this site!
meanwhile, how about the hypocracy of Wal Mart - check out this article all about how they’re going to introduce organic themselves…and how bad it actually is for organic farming! http://tinyurl.com/paxpz

Thanks for the link. It\’s all stuff that you sort of surmise when you hear the name WalMart but to have it all summed up in one concise article is excellent. I hope everyone who comes here reads that article, which frankly scares the hell out of me, and thinks twice about buying anything organic from Walmart. I don\’t care how cheap it is. I will NEVER buy from them.
